A Spring Season Journey as an Amateur Photojournalist

In the spring of 2011, I was contacted by an editor from Holmdel Patch.com, who stumbled upon some of my spring images I had available on my website and took at Holmdel Park the year before. She asked me if I would be interested in sharing these images with their readers and include a how-to article offering some basic photography tips.

Digital cameras were becoming widely popular and I was one of those people who not only embraced this new digital photography hobby, I became very passionate about photography and ended up taking an online photography class through the local community college in 2008.

Having the opportunity to do that article was something I just couldn’t say no to, even though I had no prior photo journalism experience. So I did the article and what followed was a new business relationship with the editor throughout that spring covering events in that area.

Over the next few months, I provided all the photographs for the following articles published. I was so nervous each time I arrived at an event, but when I would pull my camera out of the camera bag and threw it’s strap behind my neck it did turn into a fun day. A busy one but definitely fun. It all was a wonderful learning experience. I met a lot of interesting people and interacting with a lot of the kids was great too. Memories I will always cherish.

Join me in celebrating this 10-year anniversary of an impactful milestone in my life by having a look at the articles.

In the 2 additional articles, credit went to the writers I collaborated with.
